The most challenging issues for the Burnley Pocket, both now and into the future, are managing growth and appropriate development.
The residents must have their say in how developments impact the area and it is vital that Council balances the needs of future growth while protecting the heritage streetscape. With the imminent possibility that the State Government will take over planning in some way, shape or form, a strong residents' voice is important.
Currently, though mostly residential areas (the vast majority of the Pocket) are limited to 3 storeys, the dozen or so commercially-zoned sites have no height restrictions at all. We managed to at least limit the height of the Salta Group development in Adam Street.

But it isn't always about buildings... at least not directly. The Australia Post building, with just over 100 car parks for around 3,000 staff, has seen the available parking in the Pocket just about vanish. Our campaign to have the 4 hour restrictions in Madden Grove and around the park has borne fruit, and hopefully this will alleviate the crush... so long as Council vigourously enforce the new limits. 2026 will tell the tale on that!
